Alex, tell us about yourself…
“My name is Alex and I am a Brazilian / Italian citizen who moved from Italy to the UK in 2008 with the mindset to learn English and get a qualification in order to open my own business.”
Tell us more about your start up…
“Our focus at Fortis Investment Limited is to provide an extra income for your clients and deliver a sustainable capital gain in every quarter.
We have recently employed new people who are UCB students to help our Organic Growth Strategy. This strategy involves using all the business profits reinvested back straight into the business.”
What made you jump at the chance of coming on BSEEN?
“The idea of joining the programme was to get more knowledge about how to run and adapt a small business to the market, gain market share in the industry, share ideas with other business start-ups and develop more skills to run the business.”
What do you think you have learned the most from your BSEEN journey?
“The most useful session for me at the BSEEN bootcamp was the Marketing session on how to connect and expand your business in the city. It was great to hear and learn from people who already have an established business.”
What has been your business stand out moment since being on BSEEN?
“Fortis Investment Limited is now better connected with other business owners and more clients have started using our services since we adopted some of the marketing strategies we learned during the BSEEN training.”
Any advice for entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting their own business?
“First, the entrepreneur needs to believe in his or her product, then find a gap in the market, plan your work and finally work your plan. I would advise you not to be shy if you need help or advice from others. Ask for ideas, dedicate your time to your business as much as possible and don’t give up in difficult times.”
What are your next steps for your business?
“We are moving to a big office next year and more people will be involved in the business. We have already signed a deal and we have recently started working with a business partner who will help us in gaining more clients and grow our market share. We are going to work on expanding Fortis Investment Limited in Birmingham and we are targeting different communities, which is what we initially planned before we opened the business. We are targeting four different communities and the plan for the next six months is to bring more staff and partners so that we can expand and grow our client database. “
