Entrepreneur of the Month: MyMaskology

Xinxin is an Aston University graduate who is passionate about the beauty industry and has a mission to provide beauty masks which match her clients’ personal beauty aspirations and goals. 

Xinxin, tell us about yourself…

“My name is Xinxin, I am an Aston graduate, originally from China. I have been living in the UK for the past 9 years. I studied Accounting for Management for my Bachelor’s degree and then went onto to completing my Masters in Entrepreneurship and International Business.”

Tell us more about your start up…

“I am enthusiastic about beauty and I have always dreamt about being my own boss. All the skills I have learnt from my studies at university have made this possible. Earlier this summer, I launched my sheet mask beauty box business MyMaskology.

MyMaskology is a beauty box subscription service, focusing on premium Asian face masks. MyMaskology provides consumers a personalised beauty box delivered to their door, containing the best of Asia’s face masks, each box is handpicked to meet the individual needs, analysing their skin types, beauty aspirations and goals.”

What made you jump at the chance of coming on BSEEN?

“As an international student, BSEEN gave me the opportunity to start my own company in the UK. BSEEN provided me the perfect platform to make my idea into a reality.”

What do you think you have learned the most from your BSEEN journey?

“BSEEN has provided me the practical and social skills that I need to make my business a success. BSEEN has given me the opportunity to meet many like-minded individuals, where I could listen other entrepreneurs’ experiences and to be surrounded by positive influences.”

What has been your business stand out moment since being on BSEEN?

“One of the best moments is being accepted by BSEEN. When I received my endorsement letter it meant the world to me, as I felt that I was accepted as an entrepreneur and gave me the confidence that others also believed in me and MyMaskology. Another moment I would like to mention is when I recently received some brilliant reviews from customers and experienced box reviewers. They referred to my box as containing ‘attention to detail’. This made me feel that my hard work and determination is noticed, appreciated and really paying off.”

Any advice for entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting their own business?

“Starting a business is like raising a child, you need to provide it with all the care and attention you have, in order for it succeed. But once you launch and your business achieves its goals the reward is very fulfilling, so the best advice is dream big and just do it.

Planning is definitely key! One of the most common ways to plan well is to write a business plan. Having a business plan decreases the likelihood of getting lost along the way and in the same time, it reduces your risks. Having a business plan is really helpful as you know you can always go back to it and the whole process simply becomes more manageable. Starting a business is like raising a child, you need to provide it with all the care and attention you have, in order for it to succeed. However, once you launch and your business achieve its goals, the reward is very fulfilling, so the best advice is to dream big and just do it.”

What are your next steps for your business?

“The next step for MyMaskology is to expand its product offering and reach a greater audience. MyMaskology has been working with their suppliers on bringing the most unique and trendy sheet masks from Asia to the UK beauty market.”
