What made you jump at the chance of coming on BSEEN?
“Applying as final year students, having loved the support of our course tutors, we wanted to be able to create a new place for us to call home once we had left! From the support of the BSEEN staff and mentors, links into networking opportunities and a lovely grant! it seemed like a perfect way to progress from university into the real world without having to go it alone!”
What has been the biggest learning curve you have had to overcome as an Entrepreneur?
“We knew networking was important but until your working 9-5 every day, you don’t realise how important! In our business, with all the local and global competition, every design job is word of mouth. Our clients trust the opinions of previous clients and we have a much better chance of securing the job if they was referred to us or if they have previously connected with us at a meet up.”
What has been your business stand out moment?
“For us, we’re really pleased with some of the connections we’ve made. We’re registered as the official design team for UCB enterprise students, have some local major companies such as Superdream out source work to us, and have had the opportunities to go down and collaborate with some top London companies such as media company VICE / I-D Mag and augmented reality technology company Blippar.”
Any advice for entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting their own business?
“It sounds very cliché, but networking. Every connection we’ve made, from a previous contact we’ve known, a dedicated networking event, casual meet up, drinks, we always seem to gain something from them, even if its a few months down the line. Our best advice is if you don’t want to sell your business to them, ask about theirs! What inspires them, where do they see their company going, you never know what your interest in them now could lead to in the future!”
What are your next steps for your business?
“Our next steps are to continue with expanding our business by securing our offices spaces in Birmingham City Centre with a few freelance employee’s to spice up the workflow, get our office turtle pet and grow our secondary sister business; a media and entertainment channel ‘Noisy Corner’ !”
