Entrepreneur of the Month: Remedy Roots

Stuart is an Aston University graduate who has set up Remedy Roots with his cousin, Lisa.

Stuart, tell us about yourself…

“Originally, I am coming from a B2B marketing background and wanted to experience setting-up a proper consumer brand and be my own boss.

Tell us more about Remedy Roots…

“Remedy Roots was born when Lisa asked me to create a basic marketing plan for her. She’d created her own recipes for an amazing range of healthy teas and wanted to sell them in Ireland. I took one look at the values that she wanted the business to have and begged her to let me team up with her!
Remedy Roots launched a few months ago with a range of health-beneficial loose-leaf herbal teas. We want to help people nourish better health by creating a range of great tasting products that make them feel good on the inside and out.
Whether it’s to cope with stress, to sleep better or to boost the immune system, we’ve hand picked the right herbs and created our own recipes to support your body.”

What made you jump at the chance of coming on BSEEN?

“The free space to come in and work to develop your business is a fantastic aspect of the programme as it gives you room to think. When you couple that with the support of the programme co-ordinators and the opportunities for mentoring, it really is an unmissable opportunity for would-be entrepreneurs.”

What do you think you have learnt the most from your BSEEN journey?

“The most important thing I’ve learnt from BSEEN is that there’s always a solution or a workaround. If your idea is good and there’s an audience for it, there’ll never be a problem you can’t overcome with the right people around you to help come up with answers.

What has been your business stand out moment since being on BSEEN?

“It’s more of a rolling moment than a one off! Every time someone samples our product and loves it, or drops us a message to say how much they’re enjoying the tea, that really makes all of the difficult moments worth it!”

Any advice for entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting their own business?

“However long you think it’ll take you to get your business off the ground and established double it. There are so many things to tick off and you’re having to do everything for the first time, so it all takes longer. Don’t be disheartened by the process and work like you want to achieve everything in half the time!”

What are your next steps for your business?

“The big focus for us over the next few months is to get ourselves stocked in health food shops and cafes to take us to the next level. We’ve done plenty of markets and events, so we know that our teas are received really well, now it’s time to get them out there more.
We’re also developing a range of wedding favours, all based on our teas!”
