Entrepreneur of the Month: BOAH

PhD scientist Milda Grubliauskiene is the founder and CEO of BOAH (Beauty of Alternative Happiness).

Milda, tell us about yourself…

“I am Milda and I am a founder and CEO of BOAH products. I am a passionate Biomedical Science graduate soon to be a PhD graduate in Medical Science. Even though my whole life revolved around science and medicine, I have always had a secret passion for fashion and design. That little artistic part of me always used to come out in one way or another but I have never had a chance to realise it until now. In simpler words, I am a simple Lithuanian girl living in the United Kingdom still trying to discover myself. I am madly crazy about dogs and animal welfare in general, therefore I support numerous charities and non-profit organisations around the world. I also deeply care about the global issues concerning waste and the harmful effect it has on the environment. So there are two things that I feel quite strongly about: beauty and environmental issues. And that is where BOAH comes in.”

Tell us more about your start up…

“BOAH – Beauty of Alternative Happiness. We are a young fast-growing company that takes pride in providing environmentally friendly products. We promote an alternative lifestyle and habits. What do we mean by that? Well, long story short, we want to encourage you to change your old habits of using toxic and harmful single-used materials and products into a sustainable and ethological (ethical + ecological) routine. At the very least, we want to encourage you to give it a thought. Step by step it can become an alternative lifestyle – a lifestyle that quite a few people around the world are promoting at the moment. And you know what? They are extremely happy and positive! You can not only reduce your costs, use your beloved product multiple times but also help the environment – our lovely planet Earth.

This is exactly where BOAH comes in! We care about the global issues surrounding us today and we also love beauty. And who says that these two are not compatible together? Major brands are taking actions to help the environment and become eco-friendly. We are joining forces and believing that every action taken can lead to a conscious sustainable world, starting from everyday wear to an occasional treat. Biodegradable, ethical, eco-friendly, ergonomic, recycled & upcycled, healthy and natural are all key characteristics that BOAH stands strongly behind. We want to see the world as a better place and what day is better than today to start thinking and taking sensible actions. You may ask why? Simply, BECAUSE WE CARE.

We start our journey by offering the world our beloved beautiful and elegant BOAH Women’s Chelsea wellies. Lightweight, durable and comfortable everyday footwear which is suitable for every occasion, whether it is a rainy day outside or another day at the office. The wellies are made out of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) materials, which are light, durable and odour-free. The delicate Chelsea shoes design is made to precision so that every detail from stitching to outer finish stands out. It fits all – it is an inclusive universal design, compatible with unisex category. Therefore if it fits – it sits. The manufacturing of these wellies is exceptional compared to that of other waterproof footwear retailers. The boots are made using ethical ergonomic infrastructure, which follows an environmentally friendly strategy. All boots are recycled and upcycled with a guaranteed “Zero Waste” policy. You can be sure that by wearing them you are helping the environment.”

What made you jump at the chance of coming on BSEEN?

“I have been a science driven person since I was in High School. Business, marketing and other similar business related aspects sounded like jibber jabber to me. I had multiple ideas of how my passion for sustainable fashion and helping the environment could come together. Sadly, I never had the chance to realise my ideas due to lack of access to social and financial support. Luckily, I came across and was recommended to join BSEEN. This led to the wonderful opportunity of creating BOAH.”

What do you think you have learned the most from your BSEEN journey?

“The most important part of BSEEN is that it enabled me to unleash my inner creativity and establish BOAH. I have learnt what business is and how it works inside out. I have also had opportunities to present BOAH and our products to multiple audiences throughout various events and exhibitions. I received very positive feedback at those events and this fueled my motivation to carry on.”

What has been your business stand out moment since being on BSEEN?

“The most stand out moment so far is that BOAH is growing and we have recently established a business collaboration with a sustainable fashion brand  called GrumpyGabu from Copenhagen, Denmark. It is still very new and fresh but we feel very excited about it! Denmark is a capital of sustainability and actively supports this industry. So we feel very proud to join forces with brands that stand strongly behind the environmental issues facing today.”

Any advice for entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting their own business?

“My advice to entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting a business is to TRY. You never know if you can succeed unless you try. We all know that hard times always come easy but they never last long and the fruits of success taste better when you have been there from day one. It is you, your idea and a journey of a lifetime. There is a quote that we like to say at BOAH: You only live once, but if you live it right – once is enough.”

What are your next steps for your business?

“We are growing! We are expanding our range from ethical footwear to a broad spectrum of alternative products. We are super excited to introduce our customised lines of ecological personal care, kitchenware and many other products. BOAH is also a community. Here at BOAH we want to share our ideas, experience and thoughts. It is not about ME, it is all about WE. BOAH is there for everyone and only by breaking stereotypes and unhealthy habits together we can make a change that truly matters. Interested? Do you have any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Do you want to be a part of BOAH or the worldwide movement that is cheering for a healthier world? Join us and be part of BOAH journey on social media @boahproducts.”
