Are You Eligible for BSEEN?
If you meet the following criteria, you’re free to apply!
Do you have the drive to become the founder of your own company?* Are you committed to working hard to make your business a success?
BSEEN is open to students of Aston University, Birmingham City University, University College Birmingham and Newman University, wanting to set up a business in the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP area.
*Please note unfortunately we are unable to support retail businesses under ERDF funding.
**Please note, international students are not able to set up a business due to VISA restrictions. International graduates from Aston University and Birmingham City University will need to apply for the Startup Visa if they wish to be accepted onto the programme, and should contact their own university separately. Regrettably, Aston University has taken the decision to delay the next intake of Startup Visas due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It is working on the basis that the visa scheme will be available for a September/October intake, however, we are unable to confirm this until the Government advises we can reopen the University as normal. For ongoing information on this situation, please contact us or the International Office at Aston University.
*** Your business must not have already started trading.
Once a business is registered the support provided by BSEEN is classed as De Minimis Aid under EC Regulation 1998/2006. (All enterprises in the EU are eligible to receive up to 200,000 EUROS of aid every three year period). Ongoing support is available to business owners for one year. Business owners typically receive £3280, which includes start-up training workshop, a business grant and monthly support.

“I had the skills for making an ambulance work and making cakes and just needed to fill in the business part which is what BSEEN really provided. Everything I needed for starting a business I got through BSEEN. The business support provided me with the confidence to go forward and the money helped that process.”
– James, The Cake Doctor
“I was really looking for help to gain the basic business skills that I need to run my business, which BSEEN have been very helpful with. I think I was a bit quieter about promoting myself at the beginning of the programme, whereas now I’m getting myself out there which is really good, and getting more customers in which is always amazing.”
