Blacktapestudios’ ‘Open House Week’

Blacktapestudios ’ ‘Open House Week’ started on Monday 17th November and is set to end with a ‘big splash’ on Saturday 22nd at 6pm when they launch their #CREATIVEDROP crowdfunding campaign; a profit share project to help direct support to entrepreneurs seeking access to facilities and dedicated spaces. The event is a great opportunity to network with like-minded creatives and hear more about this exciting project.

Blacktapesociety have invested over £7000 into brand new facilities for students and freelance professionals seeking creative workspace. Blacktapestudios is a 3200sq ft. warehouse in Birmingham’s former Henry Mills Building, which ceased trading last year after 157 years of bookbinding & print services.

Blacktapesociety are a mutual interest society prized on the formation of a balanced creative environment.  Members of the society Lucy Gakunga and Andre Reid, alumni of Birmingham’s School of Architecture’s have come together alongside graduates from the disciplines of psychology to computer science engineering with the idea to create a space in Birmingham’s city centre.

The space now registered as ‘Blacktapestudios’, has begun to form partnerships with Birmingham City University to help in developing a bridge into industry for students connected to the university. The team also intend on rekindling connections with their past tutors and lecturers involved in the ‘Created In Birmingham’ project aspiring to create a platform for the creative community in Birmingham.

Blacktapestudios are currently being supported by BSEEN. BSEEN is a business start-up programme and a collaboration between Aston University, Birmingham City University and the University of Birmingham, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
