University College Birmingham Master student Madiha Khusar is the founder of LYF Cosmetics.
Madiha, tell us about yourself…
“I am an aspiring young entrepreneur who is currently doing an MSc Enterprise Management at University College Birmingham. I have previously studied BA Hons Marketing Management and graduated with a first class honours degree. I learnt that I had an entrepreneurial side whilst studying at university and felt that I could start a business on something that I felt passionate about.
Someone who knows me would describe me as bubbly person, always wanting to make people smile.”
Tell us more about LYF Cosmetics…
“LYF Cosmetics is a new skincare brand, which is vegan, organic and Halal certified. The products are free from alcohol, harsh chemicals, animal testing, and animal fats. The first product is a Rejuvenating Facial Moisturiser. The brand aims to provide women with many skincare benefits all in one product. The reason as to why I started my own business was because of experiencing discoloration on my face. I then started researching the healthiest methods to improve my skin and that is when I discovered the power of superfruits.”
What made you jump at the chance of coming on BSEEN?
“The BSEEN programme has played a massive part for the new business to kick-start its journey. I attended a five-day boot camp, which helped me understand my business and my target market better. I also received a £500 grant for the business to use on marketing materials to help build brand identity and awareness.”
What do you think you have learned the most from your BSEEN journey?
“What I have learnt the most from my BSEEN journey is how to present my business idea well to customers. LYF Cosmetics is more than just a skincare brand, it is personal to me and that is what drives me to grow my business each day.”
What has been your business stand out moment since being on BSEEN?
“The stand out moment for my business since being on BSEEN is the amazing reactions I get from customers when they apply my product to their skin. One of my customers said “It’s everything you could want in your skincare”.”
Any advice for entrepreneurial students or graduates thinking about starting their own business?
“The advice I would give to anyone who is thinking about starting their own business, is to start a business in which they feel passionate about, as this is where they would be able to build a strong foundation of the business.”
What are your next steps for your business?
“The next steps for LYF Cosmetics is to attend various tradeshow events in the UK, to meet customers and build brand awareness. We are also planning to start selling through our e-commerce website www.lyfcosmeticsuk.com.”
